The Native Plant Store can Now be Found Here

  • This page will remain accessible as a library page until I have all the species moved to the new page and all the quirks worked out in the new software so it can function as a searchable library.
  • Please see the Using the Plant Library  page  for some tips on how to make the most of the information in this existing library to select species for creating a healthy native plant community suited to the conditions of your site.

Vernonia missurica, Missouri Ironweed

Vernonia missurica

Missouri Ironweed

  • Full sun
  • Average to slightly dry or slightly wet soil
  • 60” tall, 24” to 36” wide
  • Late summer to fall blooming
  • Ontario Native, Beginner Friendly. Prefers moderate to high fertility soils. Very popular with pollinators

New to me this year, grown from seeds sourced from Prairie Moon Nursery.

A large, slightly slow to mature perennial that can take up to three years to begin blooming, these showy flowers that attract many late-summer pollinators are worth the wait.

Pair with Swamp Milkweed, Joe-Pye Weed, Giant Goldenrod and other equally bold species.

Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
