The Native Plant Store can Now be Found Here

  • This page will remain accessible as a library page until I have all the species moved to the new page and all the quirks worked out in the new software so it can function as a searchable library.
  • Please see the Using the Plant Library  page  for some tips on how to make the most of the information in this existing library to select species for creating a healthy native plant community suited to the conditions of your site.

Elymus virginicus, Virginia Wild Rye

Elymus virginicus

Virginia Wild Rye

  • Average to Wet Soils
  • Full Sun to Shade
  • Up to 4’ tall, 12” to 18” spacing
  • Summer Blooms, Fall Seed Heads
  • Ontario Native, Thrives in Meadow, Wet Meadow and Woodland Ecosystems

Still New to my gardens, grown from seeds sourced from Prairie Moon Nursery.

A shade tolerant grass with a preferance for even moisture, these will also grow in sunnier settings. They mature relativly quickly to roughly 4' in height and often begin to fade within a few years. These traits make them excellent companions for slower maturing species when planning a naturalized space.

Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
