Strophostyles leiosperma, Small Wild Bean

Strophostyles leiosperma

Small Wild Bean

  • Annual Vine
  • Average to dry soils, prefers sandy conditions
  • Full Sun
  • 6 tall vine-requires support
  • Summer blooms

Thrives in open woodlands or meadows, as well as sandy shorelines, as long as they have something to climb on

New to me, grown from seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery https://www.prairiemoon.com/strophostyles-leiosperma-small-wild-bean-prairie-moon-nursery.html -Technically I tried growing some last year, but the squirrels got the seedlings ☹

Very similar Trailing Wild Bean, which I grew last year in a large pot, these are described as preferring sandier, dryer conditions.

While the pods of this bean are fuzzier than their Trailing cousins, their seeds are reportedly smooth and free of the fuzziness found on the Trailing species, which may be appealing to anyone considering these as a dry-bean crop.

Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
