Chasmanthium latifolium
Broad-leaved Chasmanthium or Northern Sea Oats
- Average to moderately high moisture soils
- Best in part shade but will tolerate full sun with sufficient moisture
- 3’ tall, 1’ to 2’ spread
- Summer blooming, seed heads into the fall
- Native to Ontario, beginner friendly, open woodland forest and high moisture (but not flooded) ecosystems
New to me this year, grown from seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery https://www.prairiemoon.com/chasmanthium-latifolium-river-oats-prairie-moon-nursery.html
A clump forming grass that can spread, mostly by seed, to form a large patch if space allows. Their wide bladed foliage, arching stems and dangling seeds create a string visual effect in semi-shaded gardens.
Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
