Chamaenerion angustifolium
Fireweed
- Sun to light shade
- Moderatly dry to moderatly wet soil
- 4' in height, spreading to form a patch
- Summer Blooms
- Ontario Native, Meadows, open woodlands and large pollinator gardens.
- Edible
New to my garden, the seeds for these came from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library
Extremely show and quick to establish after disturbance, including forestfires, these can spread fairly quickly by rhizomes, forming dense colonies that could overwhelm some gardens.
Flowers, young leaves and stems are all edible -so is the root, but they may be bitter and they require roasting from what I've read online.
