Historically native to a very limited area of what is currently the USA, this species adapts well to garden areas with sufficient moisture. They are long blooming, very showy and somewhat similar to their cousins, Hollyhocks.
As with Hollyhocks, they are vulnerable to rust fungi if they become stressed due to lack of soil moisture.
