Eragrostis spectabilis, Purple Lovegrass

~I have yet to find the perfect germination conditions for these and won't be offering them until I have more success~

Eragrostis spectabilis

Purple Lovegrass

  • Slightly to Very Dry Soils
  • Full sun to Light Shade
  • 24” tall, 12” to 24” wide
  • Summer Blooms
  • Ontario Native, Thriving in Dry Meadow ecosystems

New to me, grown from seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery https://www.prairiemoon.com/eragrostis-spectabilis-purple-love-grass-prairie-moon-nursery.html

A relatively short native grass that thrives in hot, dry locations and is tolerant of salt, making them a good candidate for roadside and boulevard plantings. The haze of purple flowers develops in mid-summer and is followed by a similar haze of tan seed heads.

Recommended in Lorraine Johnson’s blog post Ghost Plants about hard to source species deserving of wider planting in Ontario gardens
