Cephalanthus occidentalis, Eastern Buttonbush

Cephalanthus occidentalis

Eastern Buttonbush

  • Shrub
  • Moderately to very wet soils.
  • Full Sun to light shade
  • 4’ to 12’ tall 4’ to 8’ wide
  • Summer Blooms
  • Ontario Native, Thrives in wetlands and high moisture settings, especially shorelines. Will adapt to garden settings but is not drought tolerant

At their best where they receive consistent moisture, these showy shrubs thrive on shorelines and in areas where water collects during spring melt and after rain.

Their glossy foliage is a lovely backdrop to their spheres of blooms that are attractive to a wide range of pollinators. Their flowers are followed by round seed heads that are a fall and winter food source for migrating and shore birds

Grown from seed that was wild-gathered in the Ottawa area

The Online Plant Nursery will re-open for orders on Tuesday, May 17th

Pickups will begin the following week.

I will be offering plug sized plants for $1.25 each or 5 for $5.

I'm in the process of adding species that I expect to offer this spring to the listings since they are starting to germinate and I'm starting to get an idea of which will be available in abundant quantities.

Since the list is much longer this year I've added several categories to help narrow down your options based on a variety of criteria.

For those who have already adopted seedlings, planting instructions can be found here.
