~ Asclepias speciosa, Showy Milkweed

Asclepias speciosa

Showy Milkweed

  • Average to dry soils
  • Full Sun
  • 36” to 48” tall, 24” wide, spreading slowly to form a patch
  • Summer bloom
  • Native from Manitoba west. Beginner friendly, thrives in meadow and dry meadow ecosystems.
  • Spreads more slowly than Common Milkweed

New to me, grown from seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery https://www.prairiemoon.com/asclepias-speciosa-showy-milkweed-prairie-moon-nursery.html

A visually striking member of the Milkweed family, the historical range of this one doesn’t extend to Ontario, extending roughly from the Mississippi west. Similar to common Milkweed, with somewhat more pronounced star shapes to their blooms and a tendency to spread a bit more slowly, which might be appropriate for some garden settings.

Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
