Allium canadense var. lavendulare

Showy Wild Garlic

  • Average to moderately dry soils
  • Full Sun
  • 12” tall, 4’ to 6” wide
  • Spring Blooms
  • Native to the USA mid-west, Thrives in meadow and garden settings

New to me, grown from seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery https://www.prairiemoon.com/allium-canadense-var-lavendulare-showy-wild-garlic-prairie-moon-nursery.html

Unlike the Canadian Wild Garlic, Allium canadense, native to this area, which produces bulbils at the tops of the blooming stems, rather than true seeds, this sub-species, native to the US mid-west, grows a full flower head and produces viable true seed.

As is typical for Alliums, these have edible leaves, flowers and bulbs. Their foliage appears very early in the spring and can be harvested like spring onions.

Please check out the Prairie Moon listing at the link above for more details.
